Izar is a yellow bright giant star in the constellation Boötes. At 202 light years away, it is the 82nd brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 2.35. Izar is a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 20.8 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 24,000 and 26,300 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It will come closest to the Sun 2.3 million years from now when it will brighten to magnitude 1.34 from a distance of 127 light years.
