Theta Carinae (HIP 52419)

Theta Carinae is a blue main-sequence star in the constellation Carina. At 479 light years away, it is the 121st brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 2.74. Theta Carinae is the primary component of a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 25.2 km/s relative to the Sun and is part of the Southern Pleiades moving group. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 19,700 and 24,200 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 4.5 million years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 1.66 from a distance of 291 light years.
