At 1,525 light years away, it is the 356th brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 3.69. It an intrinsic variable star that varies between magntitudes 3.52 and 4.24 over a period of 35.56 days. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 33.9 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 23,700 and 25,700 light years from the center of the Galaxy.
