71 Orionis is a white subgiant star in the constellation Orion. At 68 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 5.20. 71 Orionis is the primary component of a multiple-star system. The star's age is estimated to be 1 billion years but is certainly no greater than 1.9 billion years. The iron abundance of 71 Orionis is +0.06 (114.8% of the Sun). It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 40.7 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 21,500 and 25,800 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 433,000 years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 3.69 from a distance of 34 light years.
