Eta Scorpii is a white subgiant star in the constellation Scorpius. At 73 light years away, it is the 239th brightest star in the Earth's sky, where it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 3.32. The star's age is estimated to be 1.1 billion years but is certainly no less than 1 billion years and no greater than 1.2 billion years. The iron abundance of Eta Scorpii is +0.13 (134.9% of the Sun). It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 41 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 21,900 and 26,300 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It will come closest to the Sun 353,000 years from now when it will brighten to magnitude 2.70 from a distance of 55 light years.
