HR 3612 (HIP 44700)
HR 3612 is a yellow bright giant star in the constellation Lynx. At 705 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 4.54. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 35.4 km/s relative to the Sun.
Sky position: RA 9h 6.5m, Dec +38° 27.1'
Common designations: HR 3612, HD 77912, HIP 44700, Gaia DR3 719103698606421888
HR 3612 has the spectral type G7IIa. G-type stars are yellow stars of about 5,300 to 6,000 K, the same class as the Sun. Their spectra show strong lines of ionized calcium and many metals. Its luminosity class II marks it as a bright giant, more luminous than ordinary giants.
How to find HR 3612 in the sky
HR 3612 lies in Lynx. With a declination of +38° 27.1', it is visible from the entire Northern Hemisphere and from the Southern Hemisphere down to about latitude 52° S. Observers poleward of latitude 52° N see it as circumpolar: it never sets. It is bright enough to see with the naked eye under dark skies. It is highest in the sky at local midnight around March, which makes the weeks around that month the best time to observe it.
