3 Monocerotis is a blue giant star in the constellation Monoceros. At 768 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 4.92. 3 Monocerotis is a multiple-star system. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 40.6 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 22,700 and 25,400 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 5.4 million years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 2.17 from a distance of 216 light years.
