At 31 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 5.31. 61 Ursae Majoris is the primary component of a multiple-star system. The star's age is estimated to be 900 million years but is certainly no greater than 9.8 billion years. The iron abundance of 61 Ursae Majoris is -0.03 (93.3% of the Sun). It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 18.2 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 21,600 and 26,500 light years from the center of the Galaxy.
