HD 4208, a yellow main-sequence star in Sculptor
HD 4208 is a yellow main-sequence star in the constellation Sculptor. At 111 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 7.79.
HD 4208 (HIP 3479)
HD 4208 is a yellow main-sequence star in the constellation Sculptor. At 111 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 7.79. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 79.8 km/s relative to the Sun.
Sky position: RA 0h 44.4m, Dec -26° 30.9'
Common designations: HD 4208, GJ 9024, HIP 3479, Gaia DR3 2343647384368388608
HD 4208 has the spectral type G7VFe-1CH-0.5. G-type stars are yellow stars of about 5,300 to 6,000 K, the same class as the Sun. Their spectra show strong lines of ionized calcium and many metals. Its luminosity class V means it is a main-sequence (dwarf) star, still fusing hydrogen into helium in its core like the Sun.
How to find HD 4208 in the sky
HD 4208 lies in Sculptor. With a declination of -26° 30.9', it is visible from the entire Southern Hemisphere and from the Northern Hemisphere up to about latitude 63° N. It is just beyond naked-eye visibility; binoculars will show it easily. It is highest in the sky at local midnight around October, which makes the weeks around that month the best time to observe it.
