HD 4113 (HIP 3391)

HD 4113 is a yellow main-sequence star in the constellation Sculptor. At 137 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 7.88. It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 25.3 km/s relative to the Sun.

Sky position: RA 0h 43.2m, Dec -37° 59.0'

Common designations: HD 4113, HIP 3391, Gaia DR3 5000774703569900800

HD 4113 has the spectral type G5V. G-type stars are yellow stars of about 5,300 to 6,000 K, the same class as the Sun. Their spectra show strong lines of ionized calcium and many metals. Its luminosity class V means it is a main-sequence (dwarf) star, still fusing hydrogen into helium in its core like the Sun.

How to find HD 4113 in the sky

HD 4113 lies in Sculptor. With a declination of -37° 59.0', it is visible from the entire Southern Hemisphere and from the Northern Hemisphere up to about latitude 52° N. Observers poleward of latitude 52° S see it as circumpolar: it never sets. It is just beyond naked-eye visibility; binoculars will show it easily. It is highest in the sky at local midnight around October, which makes the weeks around that month the best time to observe it.
