58 Eridani is a yellow main-sequence star in the constellation Eridanus. At 43 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 5.49. The star's age is estimated to be 700 million years but is certainly no greater than 5.5 billion years. The iron abundance of 58 Eridani is 0 (100.0% of the Sun). It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 26.6 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 23,700 and 27,500 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It came closest to the Sun 421,000 years ago when it had brightened to magnitude 4.00 from a distance of 21.8 light years.
